Lovely metallics

Say hello to the new addition to my closet.
These were my weekend Anthropologie find. They were on sale, the last pair and they were my size. Of course I took this as a sign. :)
I like unique shoes. I don't have a gazillion pairs of shoes like some woman but my moderate collection are all unique and special.

Comfort will always win...

I'm liking these outfits. I'm leaning toward comfort clothing right now. These look pretty and comfortable.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
Ours was busy and ended with me getting sick Saturday night and not sleeping the entire night. Gotta love that. Needless to say I'm utterly exhausted right now. I'm feeling a little better and hoping a good night sleep will cure the lingering yuck feeling. I have no appetite; that's a nice plus. Haha Dieting made easy.;)
Anyway, I'm going to curl into my comfy bed and watch some New Girl while I wait for the Benadryl to both ease the allergies annnnnnd knock me out cold.
Hope everyone has a lovely week.

Projects and Ramblings

Say hello to my newest kid-art inspired medallion. :)

It's official, my local Starbucks people recognize us. ;) I love Fridays. People seem so much happier on Fridays and that is a big deal! My husband woke me up this morning and said if I get dressed fast we could get coffee... I was ready to go, complete with finished makeup in 15 minutes. See? I'm not high maintenance. ;) He's lucky I still wear makeup, that task is getting tedious! I wear much less now than I did when I was a teenager, but I can't bring myself to go without it. I've tried that and it may sound weird, but my skin felt terrible and icky all day. Weird, I know, I didn't understand it either. Considering I live in constant sunshine the foundation I use has SPF in it so I'm doing my part in keeping premature wrinkles and skin cancer away. Usually I'm not one to wear sunblock because I don't burn easy but lately I have to wear it. My poor shoulders get fried when we have the top off the jeep. No escaping from the sun during those adventures.

Tonight hubs and I are changing up our Friday routine; we're going to Santa Monica to just wander around and maybe walk Ocean Ave on the cliffs that face the water. I love that place. It's my happy place and it feels almost like a normal city, just throw in a plethora of tourists. It's still just a place that feels very much like home and for that, I am thankful.

Happy Friday, loves.

Welcome to my collection, lil guy

So the last year I have been kind of crazy about Japanese figurines. This is the newest little tiny addition to my collection. No, my interest in this makes no sense. I am in love with the colors Buff Monster uses.

Hello~

I have been having to do some laundry in my sink the old fashion way because I'm always, ALWAYS out of quarters for the machines. Reason #876 why apartment life sucks. ;)
Well, it's time for me to get started with some things around my apartment and do some more work. Hope everyone has a lovely day.

Happy weekend

I saw Rachel Zoe in Malibu this weekend. It made my day, I love her. :)
Also saw Steven Tyler of Aerosmith; I was more excited with my Rachel spotting, though. ;)
Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. Mine has been up and down and slightly frustrating. I blame the gloomy weather and full moon. :)

Can't wait!

I'm going to renegade this weekend!
There are some perks to living in Los Angeles, I s'pose. ;) Back in Michigan the closest Renegade fair was Chicago which was about a 6 hour drive from my house. Not the case now!!!
If you're in southern California and have your curiosity tweeked by this upcoming event here is the info!
The Renegade Craft Fair
Los Angeles Historic State Park
1245 N Spring Ave
July 20-21

For other info hop on over to the website:
{here}

It's a process.

Sanding the clay inlay for the wood medallion. Wood medallion was created by a shop called "Art Base" on Etsy.
Clay inlay is painted and fit into the wooden medallion.
Finished with a clear coat to protect the graphic.
My newest addition to my collection of handmade jewelry by Maddox and Klaus.
Wearable encouragement, anyone? I know sometimes I need to hear it.
This piece isn't available on my etsy yet but will be shortly.
It was a trial and error process but I finally figured it out! I look forward to make more along this same idea.
It's been a fun challenge to try to work my kid-art-inspired typography and graphic design into my jewelry collection. Everything I create goes together nicely. From my jewelry, to my garlands, to my stationary and prints. I tend to lean toward the same color pallet every time I make something.
Hope everyone is having a lovely day.

Country, anyone?

I've never been one to have an overly dramatic, strange hatred for country music. I think it's an "all American" thing. When you're in the south, specifically it's very easy to get in the mood with some country.
GLORIANA
"Can't Shake You"
I heard it on Hart of Dixie (go figure)
I absolutely love the sound of this guy's voice. I guess the only way to describe it is sexy. I'm not one to throw that word around lightly. haha But he can sing. The girl's voice is gorgeous as well. I haven't heard the whole album, but Can't Shake You is awesome.

Erin McCarley

Love, Save the Empty
I'm completely smitten with her awesome new album.
I very rarely like an artist enough to buy their entire album. Erin McCarley is awesome!
I've made more music purchases these last two months than anything. I've struck gold with some artists new tunes! Erin has been a top favorite for a year or so and I'm super glad her new album is just as catchy as the last one!

Other good ones:
One Replublic
Marina + the Diamonds (totally in love)
Lana Del Rey

Hello there.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend!
Husband and I had a rather relaxing weekend spent mostly at home.
We did a little neighborhood browsing looking for possibilities for our future home.
I don't have a whole lot to report today. I hope everyone is having a lovely day.

Attire: Free People Ariel tank dress, Target sparkly sandals.
I live in LA, a place where they think you should feel shame for shopping smart. Happy to say these sandals were only $17.00. I'm not even slightly embarrassed and frankly could care less about what anyone thinks. Not the most intelligent bunch of people. I love LOVE Target.

Jane Austen gets me every time. Of course I was tearing up during the entire end of the movie and  yes, I have seen it a zillion times. Never fails.
People need to make more movies like this. I'm tired of going to the theater and sitting for over 2 hours while the majority of the movie is a fight scene. *yawn*

Fun idea!

I am so doing this. I love it!
Buy a globe and mark the places you've been and the date.
There are not too many places in this world that I have been. I've been all over the United States, obviously, and since I grew up on the border of Canada and the US I have been to Canada many times.
I'm hoping to add Europe to my list of "adventures" in the very near future.
I am in love with Scotland.

I reccommend...

The year is 1945. Claire Randall is traveling with her husband when she touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is hurled back in time to a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of our Lord 1743. Catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life, she soon realizes that an alliance with James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, might be the only way to survive. Thus begins a work of unrivaled storytelling that has become a modern classic.

I'm so excited for this wonderfully rich story to be a tv series.
So. Darn. Excited.

Read it. It's part of a 7 or 8 book series (newest and hopefully last book should be out next spring, I believe), but the first one, Outlander, is the best! It easily could've been a stand alone story. I warn: there is content. So if you're kind of prudish about that, then this book isn't for you. I feel that the content is historically accurate and I like that lack of boundaries the author has. I like nitty-gritty, I s'pose. ;) Let's just say, I'm ruined now for young adult books. Too many limits to keep it teen based. Not to mention the obsessive love life of 16 year olds isn't my cup of tea anymore. I like edgy and intense. A love scene here and there doesn't hurt my feelings. I'm a woman... that stuff is sweet to me. Even if it's explicit, so long as it's not every single chapter (eh hem, 50 Shades of Grey: annoying) then I'm cool.
I was never into books until I was 21 and got my hands on the Twilight series, since then I have immersed myself in the world of fiction on a daily basis. I would say it's to a point of obsession. Outlander was the first adult story I read. It's like 900 pages of epic, history packed adventure with the much added bonus of a sweet love story and lovable, heroic characters.
It's got the depth of Game of Thrones and lots of action but since it's written by a woman I feel she is more connected and emotionally involved with her characters. I love that. I have read only a few stories by men and frankly am always disappointed by the lack of emotional connection they have with their characters. Generally killing them all off at some point. HATE that. I always feel that since I spent so much time reading the story I should be rewarded for my time by being given the pleasure of a happily ever after. Or at least a hopeful ending. I don't ask for much! haha
I digress... if you need reading material and Outlander is one you have yet to discover, I recommend it.

Little Details

Part of the thing that draws me most to Free People and Anthropologie are the little details you can find in their clothing and shoes. I love my clothes and shoes to just have a little something special. Even if it's simple. Like the gold and neon orange pleating on this Free People dress, or the lovely lace edge of the Free People top I purchased on my trip to Michigan last month. (Somerset Collection has the only Free People store in the entire state, I believe)
I've always ALWAYS been a fan of detail. Free People and Anthropologie are some of the best shops/brands for providing that special little something.

Alright and now for just the normal kind of update. It's actually totally gloomy in LA today! Normally this type of day would make someone bummed, but living in the land of literally constant sunshine, the gloom and doom look outside is welcomed with open arms by me, today. It's actually kind of muggy, too, which is also strange. Usually we have a somewhat dry heat. Nope. Not today. At least it's not ridiculously hot. Can't complain. Still bright enough to rock the sunglasses, though. California no matter what seems to provide enough sunlight to kill your eyeballs even when it's gloomy.
Husband stayed home from work today! His birthday (yesterday) was kind of a total fail. He ended up not getting home until like 7 something so by then it was too late to get dinner because we were both too hungry to wait an hour+ for our planned night out. SO we ordered in, he had Thai. He got some steak thing and against my better judgement I ate a little of it and sure enough within a couple minutes I wanted to be sick. I seem to have an intolerance to red meat, but sometimes it doesn't stop me from having it. Whatever, body. Anyway, popped some benadryl and laid on the couch and watched Ted. Aside from the nausea I was all good. ;) Today I have yet to eat anything and I just realized is 1 o'clock.... probably should find some lunch.
Hope everyone has a nice Thursday.

Daniel Clay

Today my lovely husband turned 30 years old. He was a bit bummed about it. I've spent my morning making a mini funfetti cake! It actually turned out very good so once it cools I'll experiment again by using a new little frosting technique. Scallops. I have all the supplies and it looks foolproof; famous last words, right? :)
Once the husband gets his butt home from work we're getting dinner at a fancy and popular steakhouse here in good 'ol Los Angeles, Boa.
I keep thinking it's Thursday, then I get bummed out because it's Wednesday. Arg!!!
Hope everyone has a lovely 'Wednesday'...

Outlander Jamie Fraser CAST!

I don't know if anyone is an Outlander fan by Diana Gabaldon, but Starz is making a tv series! They cast Jamie Fraser and thank God he's not ugly! Here he is, Sam Heughan!
Pretty easy on the eyes, if you ask me... I absolutely LOVE when new actors are cast in roles. I get so tired of seeing the same 'ol people all the darn time. It's probably why some of my favorite actors are borderline nobodies. I like it better that way. They aren't predictable.
I'm pretty particular when it comes to some of my favorite book characters being cast for movies and tv shows. This guy doesn't disappoint.
At least it's not a let down like Robert Pattinson for Edward Cullen. I think the casting people missed the part where Edward was supposed to be beautiful.... No offense to Mr. Pattinson, but his looks were too quirky for Edward Cullen. Anyway that whole series was the biggest let down ever, so I will just stop talking about it...

Bonus with this guy, here? He's actually Scottish! Keeps getting better. haha I'm a happy camper right now and I think Starz will do a great job with the series because, let's face it, Outlander has content. NEEDED content and only HBO or Starz could really do it justice! It's on a similar intense level as Game of Thrones... Just it's the 1700's and well, time travel.
If you haven't read Outlander, I would recommend it! It's not for the faint of heart, though. The book is intense in every single way. It's a time travel and though it has a love story to it it most definitely doesn't fall under the typical 'romance' category. It's most definitely historical fiction but the love story is sweet. It's one of my favorite books.
I'm looking forward to seeing who is cast as Claire Randall. :)

My day just got better.
Have a good one, loves.

Hubby is almost 30

I'm not totally sure if my husband is taking a half day for work tomorrow so I figured I needed to get his little birthday decor up before he gets out of work today. I think tonight we're going to make his funfetti mini cake and tomorrow night we're getting Boa for dinner.
I like my little mess of decorations. I try to make things festive and 30 is a big milestone so of course it had to be decorated for.
Here's hoping his cake turns out okay. I've never made a mini cake and I've never baked a cake in our oven. haha Accident waiting to happen, I know.

Paper pom poms are from BHLDN and the rest of the garland was made by hand by yours truly.
Happy Tuesday.

Ramble...

  Happy Monday, lovelies!
I hope everyone had a safe, fun and relaxing independence day! Ours was excellent. We experienced practically a 4 day weekend so it really helped us just chill out and relax. We soaked up the sun, but wore sunblock this time so no burns! Well, my nose got a bit toasty, but other than that I managed to protect my skin pretty well. I have a lovely golden glow on half my chest and my arms. Yeah. Lovely. We had the top down on the jeep so my tan lines are interesting to say the least. Friday Danny worked from home: awesome. Saturday and Sunday were just quiet and relaxing. We did some exploring, drank way too much espresso and had an amazing chocolate chunk cookie that I reluctantly shared with the mr. Split that 400 calorie business. As much as I wanted the entire darn thing to myself! ;)
Over the weekend Danny and I did a bit of neighborhood scouting. We have been talking about buying a house, so we started looking around the areas we like. I think we might get lucky! We just want something small. I'd love three bedrooms, but I'd settle for 2. I'm hoping I can find something reasonable (by California standards) Property tax is the part that freaks me out, so we'll see! Wish us luck, we've never done this and aside from marriage this will be the second biggest commitment I have ever made. I have a surprisingly complicated issue with committing myself to things that are very permanent... or very expensive.
Anyway, it's about to get hot in my apartment so I should get to working out before it's too suffocating in here. Hope everyone has a lovely Monday!

A little something made by me.

Piper Necklace
by
yours truly
{Maddox and Klaus}

You can find this little necklace

This has become a favorite.
I feel like I say that about almost all of the necklaces I make. I s'pose that's a good thing.
This little sweetness has a handpainted wooden bead in a soft dove grey, with a messy floss tassel that is slightly isotope/lemon lime green. A plastic bead in white and yellow stripe and a bright pink glass bead hanging off to the side all strung together on a genuine leather cord that slips on over your head.
I'm super proud of this little gem.
Hope you enjoy it!
If you have a moment go ahead and check out the other little creations I have on my etsy shop, too.
I plan on incorporating my stationary designs, garlands (one is currently available) and some wire letters and words in the near future! (I'm in the trial and error process of these projects, but I'll keep my blog updated on the status of them)

Vintage Christmas

E FINE GIFTS

I love vintage Christmas goodies. I found these on etsy and decided to make them mine.
They came in the mail a couple days ago and I LOVE them! The bottlebrush garland is actually pretty chunky, which is perfect! I can't wait to add these little lovelies to my vintage collection of Christmas ornaments on my tinsel tree.... Speaking of tinsel tree, it's time to upgrade to a new one. A big one. Hmmmm... Keeping my eyes open. I wouldn't mind looking into one of the champagne colored tinsel trees.
Yes.

Bad days happen...

"On particularly bad days, when I'm sure I can't possibly endure, I like to remind myself that my track record for getting through bad days is so far 100%.
And that's pretty good."
